Sources for Research
EBSCOHost provides an online database of articles from periodicals. Since you can
have articles emailed to you, you may never have to hunt down articles in the library
again. All you need is a Tucson/Pima County Public Library card or a PCC student card.
WebCite helps you search for online sources in
literary and cultural studies. They have over 2200 links! And, best of all, they're free!
The Electric Library performs searches of
articles, television and radio transcripts, and other material in their archives. This is
a great place to start with research for a project. The Electric Library is a subscription
service, which charges for use. They charge only for downloading articles, so even if you
don't sign up for a trial membership, you can still use the service for free searches, and
then later retrieve those sources from your local library.
DejaNews is an efficient search of newsgroup
databases. Enter in your keyword, and you'll be directed to archived postings from
newsgroups on your subject. You can also use DejaNews to find newsgroups to subscribe to.
The Hippocrates Project at NYU provides a
Medical Humanities database, searchable by keyword, which lists titles in literature,
arts, and medicine. This is a great source for finding titles of stories, novels, or poems
dealing with medicine.
CataList, of L-Soft
International, and Liszt provide search engines for
listservs and email lists.
