Course Objectives:

Upon Completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Conceive ideas about a topic for the purpose of writing.
  2. Organize, select, and relate ideas and develop them in coherent paragraphs and essays.
  3. Vary writing styles, including vocabulary and sentence structure, for different readers and purposes.
  4. Improve writing by restructuring, revising, and editing.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of conventions and rhetoric of argument (which may include documentation).

Course Outline:

  1. Describe a life event in place (details of setting), persons, and time (about one day).
  2. Compare reference sources for style and structure (supporting evidence cited).
  3. Persuade the reader using description, comparisions, causal relations, and other processes.
  4. Construct a cause and effect essay.  Identify causes and results, draw conclusions, make suggestions.
  5. Self-evaluate.  Make an accurate sketch of self-perceptions and goals to use as a model for future essays in job situations, etc.


 

Course Requirements:

  1. Complete all Units of Learning
  2. Submit a written assignment 


 

Course Assignments:
Workload: Each unit in this course is expected to take eight to ten hours of work for the student to complete. This estimate is based on an average student and includes reviewing material on line, from the text, and discussions in group.

Your grade will be determined by the points you earn on your assignments.
1000-900 = A
899-800 = B 
799-700 = C 
699-600 = D 
599-500 = F

Total Available Points                                               1000 points
Note:At the end of the term, you may revise any of the papers that you have written and resubmit them for a higher mark. 

Incomplete & Withdrawal:  
Students are expected to complete 70% of coursework to qualify for a
grade of "I" (incomplete).

Nov. 7, 2005  is last day to officially withdraw.

Attendance:
Students are expected to access the course at leastTHREE times for each unit . The primary measurement of attendance is the completion of course objectives within the dates and times given to each unit. 

Failure to notify the instructor of reasons for falling behind on the assignments will result in an automatic withdrawal from the course.
